The Thermal Power Plant of Sines is located about 8 kilometres south of the town of Sines, near the coast, at São Torpes. It is a coal-fired power plant, built in the 1980s as part of the industrial area of Sines in order to meet the growing demand for energy, and to reduce oil dependency.

The Port of Sines is an open deep-water seaport, leading the Portuguese port sector in the volume of cargo handled, and offering unique natural conditions on the Portuguese coast to receive any type of vessels. Equipped with modern specialized terminals, the port is able to handle all different types of cargoes, it is open to the sea, and has excellent sea accessibility without constraints.
With a distilling capacity of 10.9 million tonnes a year, or 220,000 barrels a day, the Sines refinery is one of the largest in Europe. Covering an area of 320 hectares, the Sines refinery has a storage capacity of 3 million m³, of which 1.5 million m³ is crude oil, and the remainder includes final and intermediate products such as gas, gasoline, diesel, and so on.
RECIPNEU is an SME settled in Sines since 2000 that produces recycled polymers (rubber granulates), from end-of-life tires. RECIPNEU has an installed capacity of approximately 25,000 tons / year of used tires, and the implemented technology is the Cryogenic Process.

The internationalisation of REN's operations is a business that is taking its first steps, and it received a new push with the entry of strategic international partners into the company's capital, namely State Grid and Oman Oil.
Enerfuel is a Galp Energia project. It was the first domestic plant for biofuel production using waste from the food industry and used oils as the main raw materials. The biodiesel produced by Enerfuel is intended to be incorporated into fuel diesel, thus helping to reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by over 80% compared to the fossil alternative.
Docapesca – Portos e Lotas, S.A., is a state-owned company under the Ministry of Agriculture and the Sea. Pursuant to Decree-law 107/90 of March 27, it provides the public service on mainland Portugal of organising the first sale of fish, and supports the fishing and fishing ports sector.
